News and updates from across Cuyahoga County Council District 6

Thank you.

Nov. 20, 2024 – Cleveland

Running for office isn’t something I ever intended to do. Throughout my professional career in education, I often found myself in environments where our most vulnerable citizens were navigating an unfair system. With many years observing those inequities, and a belief in the power of good government, I made the decision 10 years ago to run for my first public office. It was one of the best decisions I’ve ever made.

Today, I found out we won our election for Cuyahoga County Council in arguably one of the closest races in Cuyahoga County history. Ultimately, the race was decided by 245 votes out of over 62,000 cast. Indeed, your vote matters, your voice counts—and your hard work paid off.

I want to thank everyone that supported me throughout this campaign. From knocking on doors, donating the funds, managing the events, organizing, and showing their love, the gratitude I am feeling tonight is immense. I have built so many friendships, learned so much about the communities in my district, and met so many wonderful people.

There is a seriousness about running for office, knowing that should you win, you have a responsibility to represent everyone in your community to the best of your ability. In the midst of holding public office, there is a continual obligation to advocate for those without a voice, and to use your position, and your privilege, to lift up others. This ideology has always been my North Star.

Thank you to the voters of District 6. This was an incredibly close race, and I recognize that many people chose to vote for my opponent. Jack Schron’s commitment to service extends beyond his career in elective office and I want to thank him for his work and for his kind words of support and encouragement earlier today. To his supporters, I want you to know that I will work to represent the best interests of all constituents in the district, not just those that voted for me. Strong leadership demands an ability to see all sides, build consensus, and get things done.

So many people have been instrumental in helping me win this seat, and I will forever be grateful. We wouldn’t have been able to do any of this without all of you. You have all been the best part of this campaign. All my love to you and your families as we move into the holiday season. Together, we will continue to make Cuyahoga County a better place. Onward!

In gratitude,
Dr. Robert E. Schleper, Jr.
